There are certain websites that are among the top ranking sites in Google though they are not optimized. Ever wondered why? Sites even without backlinks or proper optimization are ranked higher when people are constantly researching on new techniques to optimize their already optimized site for a better visibility.
Here, I am listing out the reasons why some sites achieve a better ranking even though they are unoptimized than sites that are well optimized:
- Click- through Rate: Do you know how Google’s algorithm works? A part of it monitors your Click- through rates, focusing on the percentage of the clicks obtained by calculating the number of clicks you receive from the total number of people searching for the phrase you rank for. As the percentage increases, the more your chances of getting a higher rank and depending on your Click through rate in comparison to others Google will soon shift you to the upper part of the search engine’s results page. This is one of the factors that lets Google know that people prefer your listing,
Click through rates can be deceiving as people add meta tags and title tags that could be fake to increase their results, so beware of your bounce rates, Google is also monitoring these. When all the people arriving at your site hit the back button, Google will push your site downwards as it appears yours has nothing relevant. A low bounce rate and a high click through rate is one of the reasons why a large number of sites still rank high though they are unoptimized.
- Age: If you check the history with age old sites, they have a higher rank rather than the sites that are brand new and well optimized. One of the reasons can be their content and the backlinks that they have. There are a large number of brand new websites around that have relevant content and high quality backlinks but still have lower ranking. You can wait until it grows old for the age rule to apply and fetch the results.
- Backlinks: People think rich anchor texts can fetch them a better ranking over the websites but reality is different. If you have a few high quality backlinks pointing to the right internal pages then doesn’t matter whether you have a completely optimized site or not. So having back links to pages containing relevant content is more of importance than simply having anchor texts developed.
- Quality of content: Google has now tools and techniques to ensure the quality and relevance of content on a website using the Panda update which helps to determine whether the content on the site is too thin or duplicate. How Google decides the relevance of content is through comparison of content. Google compares the content on your site with the content on some other site and depending on the relevance it will rank you.
